- The novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe, the daughter of an abolitionist minister, affected the North and South differently. The North was shocked by the novel and been to believe that rather than slavery being a political issue, it was a grave and moral problem. However, many white southerners believed that the novel was propaganda, or fake news, that contained misleading information to further a cause. In addition, when Stowe met Lincoln, he said that he must've been the little lady who started the bug war. This shows that Stowe's novel had different effects on the North and South.
